Huerta Melendez, 56, was fatally struck by a car around 11 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 11 while working on a roadway construction site on Indian Head Highway near Kerby Hill Road after a vehicle drove through a closed section of roadway, according to Prince George's County police.

Investigation revealed that the driver of the vehicle struck several traffic cones before hitting Melendez, then continuing on to strike a median and second vehicle. 

Melendez was pronounced dead on the scene. 

The driver was transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The driver of the second vehicle that was hit was not injured.
